The fob has a pretty low range for the lock proximity or it could be that you and your passengers don’t get out of the car and close the door in similar times. It’s happened with me, but once you the quirks it’s pretty easy to handle. So, I am already 1-3 steps away from the car as the door is shutting. If I walk away from the car too quickly, I get a series of rapid beeps and the car does not self-lock.
